Simple Chord Structures that Enhance Melody

EASY TUNES WITH CHORDS FOR CONCERTINA

County Clare is not only the trad-capital of Ireland but it is also renowned for its wonderful tradition of concertina playing. At one stage in the mid 1900’s, it was said that almost every house in Co. Clare had a concertina! So, to keep that tradition very much alive and well, Easy Tunes with Chords for Concertina has a repertoire firmly rooted in County Clare and not only that, the course is taught by a Clare man! Up the Banner! (Clare is affectionately known as the Banner county in Ireland.) The course is set at an intermediate level, so you’ll be expected to have the basics of playing in order to make the most of it. Head over to Concertina Basics with Edel Fox if you need a refresher before beginning this course.

By the end of the course, apart from perhaps wanting to pencil in a trip to the wonderful Banner County (home to the amazing Cliffs of Moher), you’ll have 13 brand new tunes under your belt plus some very fancy techniques that are guaranteed to set your playing alight!

Course Structure

This course consists of thirteen tunes taught slowly, with an emphasis on simple chord structures to enhance the melody.

The tutor, Francis Cunningham, focuses solely on chords, drones and octaving in these lessons. After teaching the basic melody of the tune, he demonstrates how to tastefully and subtly use these techniques for embellishment and accentuation of the melody. Along with being a musician, Francis is also a school teacher, so he truly excels in his ability to break down the tunes and techniques in ways that are easy to understand, follow and master.
