OAIM is a terrific resource. They teach you what you need to know to join the tradition.
One of the best online music learning experiences I've ever had. Such good tunes and easy-to-learn from teachers and video formats. Highly recommended!
Access to instruction covering many folk/ traditional instruments. Video demonstrations are clear. Personable instructors, I’m happy to see them as experienced musicians sitting in front of a camera rather than actors/ influencers. Learning curve can be a little steep, although they do ask you to get comfortable with the topics of each lesson before venturing on (hard not to have a look!)
Overall, very good guidance to a wonderful world🙂
An excellent way to learn an Irish instrument online at your own page. Lots of instruments to choose from and one membership covers all instruments and levels. Highly recommended.
This is such a valuable resource. I have been learning to play the Bodhrán for the last few years and have found the online lessons invaluable. I regularly access the library of tunes and virtual sessions and love that I can very easily play these at reduced speed. I have also contributed to several of the 50 Tune Challenge videos and really enjoy the challenge of developing a drumming pattern to compliment the tune. One of these days I hope to be able to attend one of the face-to-face workshops and play with fellow students. Please keep up the good work OAIM.
The Online Academy of Irish Music is just the best ever. I play the Mandolin and love the down to earth no nonsense lessons that are easy to follow with different playalong lesson at various speeds and really fantastic teachers. Thank you Paddy for teaching me the Mandolin in my 50s. My French husband has also started playing the whistle and loves the lessons so much he is trying to convince me to go to a workshop in Doolin in 2024. I'm not good enough yet though. 10/10 for this amazing site with such skilled teachers
A great source for learning to play instruments and about Irish folk music. If learning an instrument from scratch, it's probably better to look for some extra instructional video elsewhere, as the technical side is not very detailed (at least for a few of the instruments I checked - like mandolin, fiddle and banjo - as coming from guitar I had trouble figuring out the correct position on the neck without making a lot of effort and getting pains to my left hand. However, on the contrary, the Bodhran explanations of the basics were the best of all those I've seen around the web!). But still a very good price for so many videos, and the interesting and useful resources you get with the subscription. note: I edited this comment as I wasn't able to answer to the request in any other way!
I took the 1 year membership and have been very happy with my results. The teachers are very experienced and easy to follow. I love the fact that you have access to all the lessons for all the instruments. Great that you can print out the music or tabs for each time you want to learn. Highly recommend.
Playing Irish Music is so much more than a melody and a few simple chords. On OAIM you can learn about chord voicings, rhythm and drive. Everything that makes your performance more lively. Thank you.
